Eye Candy: Super Socks

August 10th, 2018

No. 2 Pencil Socks by crazyknittingmom

It is so hot here right now that it’s hard to even imagine the days when I will want socks on my feet. But, socks are a great small project to work on when it’s hot out or when you will be out and about a lot, both which are the case for me right now, so I’ve found myself drawn to them again. I thought I’d share some of my favorite sock projects today.

I loved the complex patterns on these socks! From left to right: Soxx No. 22 by ninetheboss, Through the secret door by lambdamuepsilon and Anna socks by anettemcl

Cabled socks are such a classic, and I really enjoyed these three pairs. From left to right: Orville by cheekybeak, Clark Socks by Ibnik and Bicycle Race by knithemiptera

I hope these socks inspire you to make something to keep your feet (or those of someone you love) warm!

Eye Candy: Bags

July 20th, 2018

I love all these recently completed bags: they are practical, cute, and look like they were fun to make!

bags 1

The neutral colors make for such chic accessories: lifeiscozy’s Sun City Bag, marumeroco’s 26 bag, and PetraMar’s Bucket Bag Beauty.

bags 2

These bright, whimsical bags are so fun! loopysue’s rainbow zipper pouch, Usafrida’s weightless produce bags, and knitphomaniac’s frog coin purse.

bags 3

I was really drawn to the patterns and textures in MijungKim’s Mono Mochila(모노 모칠라)Bag, textileweb’s Felted Entrelac Tote, and stringplay’s Golden Fairfax Reticule.

Eye Candy: Under the Sea

July 12th, 2018

When looking at recent projects, I was so enamored with the many ocean themed toys I found so I decided I would share a few with you today. I couldn’t narrow it down to just one Octopus, so I picked three. Clockwise from the top left: Opie the Mini Octopus by pramenka, Octavia the Octopus by SteepingTStitches and Othello the Octopus by alpacahotep

I loved the detail on the squid, and found the mermaid and seal to be too cute! From left to right: Creature from the Deep by strivedesigns, Ragdoll Mermaid by Antina5 and Olivia the Seal by ZenonDeBrujas

These guys were just so cute I couldn’t stand it. I want them all to live at my house. From left to right: Stella the Sea Turtle by SabrinaKapalina, Kawaii Jelly by stitchbyfay and Little Bitty Narwhal by extraterrestrial

I continue to be so impressed with what we can create with yarn! These animals all seem to have so much personality. I hope they made you smile today.

I have very little experience with weaving but just love to browse weaving projects on Ravelry and dream of spending more time with my loom someday. I’m always blown away by the beautiful things that weavers on Ravelry create! For today’s Eye Candy, I wanted to share some of my favorite recently completed weaving projects.

Eye Candy: Building Blocks

June 13th, 2018

SteppingAway’s Do It Again

One thing I love about working with yarn is that you can start with something fairly simple, like a square, and through the use of pattern and color, you can join squares together into something amazing. Today I wanted to feature some projects using blocks that caught my eye.

From left to right: tsetse’s Granny Square, Granny Square, belqut70’s Stained Glass Window – St Louis Version and annekemie’s Tropitile CAL

On the left, Shiney300’s Bohemian Oasis Blanket and on the right, marthamckenzie’s Sediment Scraps Blanket

With the summer temperatures rising here, it can be hard to work on a large project, so I plan to start a project made of small squares soon. I hope you can find some inspiration for a similar project in the great ones featured here. Thanks to all of you who post your projects in Ravelry and inspire us daily!

juni71’s lovely t e s t k n i t yume

I live in a hot place and am always on the lookout for great warm-weather garment patterns and projects. Since it’s heating up in the northern hemisphere, quite a few Ravelers are finishing projects perfect for the coming hot months! Here are some recently completed projects I loved:

ww1

jarmeblue’s Latitude 2 (Cherry!), dwj1978’s Tecumseh for Spring, and panicola’s p.39 Bladed Zig Zag Pullover

ww2

Accessorise’s Granny diagonal block sweater, aziesmer08’s Everyday Cardigan, and Roko’s Alice Sample (S, Linen, Sport)

If you’d like to check out more recently completed sweaters (for all types of weather), check out this advanced project search!

I love the beach! I love the colors of the water and the sunsets, the smell of the salty air and the feel of the sand between my toes. Most of my beach time happens in the summer, so with summer upon us here in Texas, I thought I would feature some projects that reminded me of the beach.

First off, projects that would be great for wearing to the beach. From left to right: keltronica’s Goblin-Cleaver, miastick’s Edie 2 and Annetta13513’s Summer Vibes.

I also found these projects with colors that reminded me of the beach. From left to right: GeorgiaRain’s Hue Shift Afghan Soft Colorway, Ssteinkwller’s Like Watercolors in the Rain and catsandcrochet09’s Beautiful Shells Baby Blanket.

Wherever you are today, I hope this post brought some beach to you. I can’t wait to pack my works in progress and hit the beach this summer!

In our pattern and project searches, you can search by the number of colors used. I love this filter for looking at beautiful monochromatic projects and patterns, and also for extra-colorful lovelies! For today’s Eye Candy, I was inspired by the gorgeous projects made with 6 or more colors. Here are some of my favorites that have been completed in the past few months!

many colors toys

So many great toys came up in my search – the details are just wonderful! Pictured above are skauogco’s Rose’s bog, crazyquilter’s
Rupert Jerome Thistlewhistle, Forest Gnome, and OrangeShooze’s Benny the Birthday Monkey.

many colors bold

These projects definitely caught my eye with their bold, bright, hues: lindsaymudd’s Prism with Triangles, iridaea’s colour collection towels, and DizzyTM’s Rainbow Whimsy.

many colors subtle

These projects have more muted palettes that I think are just beautiful: Mommy2Lu’s Surprise!, bessie4dogs’ Man Vest, and soniams’ Mystical Lanterns Blanket.

These projects show that sometimes it is well worth weaving in a ton of ends!
